Inventory Management Workflow: How it Works

Efficient inventory management is a crucial element in maintaining control over stock and ensuring that the system accurately reflects the physical quantities present in the warehouse. With the support of GN Mobile and integration with JD Edwards, operators can simplify and automate the stock counting process, improving accuracy and reducing the margin for error.

Below, we will outline the main steps the operator performs to manage the inventory workflow. Starting from the creation of the cycle count to the automatic stock update, we will describe how each step is handled through interactive applications and the support of the mobile device.

Inventory Management Workflow: Operational Steps

First Step

The first step of inventory management aims to generate a report of the quantities available for each Item Code in the relevant depot/warehouse within the JD Edwards system.

For this purpose, it is possible to run an appropriate version of the R41411 batch process (select stems for cycle count) to create the cycle count for the depot/warehouse.

The generated count will be identified by a progressive number. The count will include all the items stored in the depot/warehouse, along with their respective quantities recorded in the system.

Second Step

After creating the cycle count, once the process is completed, it is possible to review the PDF document automatically generated by the R41411 batch and query the Count Number through the P41240 Interactive Application (Cycle Count Review).

Third Step

Once this preliminary phase is completed, you can proceed with the physical counting of the quantities for each item in the depot/warehouse being processed, using the Mobile device.

For guided steps on barcode scanning and quantity entry, please refer to the instructional video.

Fourth Step

Once the counting of the physically present quantities is completed, you can review the (if any) discrepancies that emerged between the quantities in the JD Edwards system and the quantities counted using the Mobile device by accessing the details of the Cycle Count from the P41240 Interactive Application.

To print the complete list of variances, simply run the R41403 batch (Print Variance Detail) through the "Print Variance" screen output within the Cycle Count Review Management Interactive Application P41241 (accessible from P41240 by entering the details of the Count). This batch will generate a PDF document summarizing the discrepancies identified.

After these steps, you can approve the Cycle Count (line exit "Approve Cycle Count" from P41240) and run the R41413 batch (Cycle Count Update) to automatically execute inventory adjustments, which will update the quantities in the JD Edwards system based on those counted via Mobile.
